Belgian graphic novelists: Starting a trio of shows about international comics, Alex Fitch talks to a pair of Belgian graphic novelists about their work. Creator Ivan Petrus discusses The Neuport Gathering, his moving and harrowing tale of Allied soldiers during the First World War, and in an interview recorded at last month’s Comica Comiket, Alex talks to artist Maarten Van Wieleabout his “graphic trash novel” Paris which features sex, drugs and degradation in the French fashion industry (includes a brief cameo by publisher Tony Bennett).

Alter-Ego alt. comics art exhibition
7 indie artists depict their alter egos in this week long gallery show at the Red Bull Studios in London.
Artists involved: Waste, Cottonmouth (RichT), Guy McKinley, Klingatron, Robert Ball, Smug, and Warwick Johnson Cadwell, looking at the ideas of being someone else, hero, villain, whatever… Worth attending for WJC and Robert Ball’s depictions of Marvel heroes alone!

Hugo Tate launch party
Eighteen years after the last panel was drawn, Nick Abadzis’ (Laika) Hugo Tate is reappearing on our shelves. Indie publisher Blank Slate of Nelson fame is finally collecting the entire six-year run of what The Comics Journal called “Britain’s Love & Rockets”.
Gosh! Comics are throwing a launch party for the book on Saturday the 12th of May from 7pm to 9pm. There will be booze and signed copies aplenty! Blank Slate Books are producing a a special bookplate edition for Hugo Tate. There will only ever be 150 copies and we’re going to have just 50 of them.
