Art from Becoming Unbecoming by Una, A Thousand Coloured Castles by Gareth Brookes, Talking to Gina by Ottilie Hainsworth
In a special episode looking at graphic novels published by Myriad Editions, Alex Fitch talks to three creators who have had books released by this Brighton based publisher. Una discusses her graphic novel Becoming Unbecoming, a book looking at the travails of growing up as a young woman in the 1970s against the backdrop of widespread misogyny and the crimes of the Yorkshire Ripper, and her self-published comic On Sanity.
Also, in Q and As recorded in front of a live audience, Gareth Brookes and Ottilie Hainsworth discuss their titles A Thousand Coloured Castles and Talking to Gina, the former, rendered in intricate layers of crayon, is a surrealistic comic looking at a woman whose macular degeneration is causing vivid hallucinations, and the latter tells Ottilie’s relationship with her new dog in intimate full page panels of joy and loss. Also includes a performance by WeBop, the all female choir that Ottilie is a member of, performing at her book launch at Phoenix Brighton.
5.30pm Wednesday 1st November 2017, repeated 7am Tuesday 7th November, Resonance 104.4 FM and DAB (London) / streamed at www.resonancefm.com / podcast after broadcast at www.panelborders.wordpress.com
